DO NOT DECRIMINALISE METH AND HEROIN

To the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly for the Australian Capital Territory

This petition of residents of the Australian Capital Territory draws to the attention of the Assembly the following: 

1. The proven harms caused by hard drugs like heroin and meth. 
2. Evidence to an inquiry into these laws was conducted by an Assembly made a compelling case against decriminalisation.
3. The warnings of the AFP Commissioner that decriminalising these hard drugs would make a ‘far more dangerous society.’ 
4. The gaps in the current system are actually in drug treatment services which are inadequately resourced and staffed.

Your petitioners therefore request the Assembly to call on the Government to:

1. Stop the legislation that would decriminalise heroin, meth and other hard drugs,
2. Properly resource ACT policing which is chronically short staffed and; 
3. Properly invest in drug treatment services that are currently underfunded.
